Exhibitera Troubleshooting
All platforms
The first time Exhibitera Apps runs, it generates a unique identifier called a UUID. UUIDs are assumed to be totally unique, so Exhibitera Hub assumes that each different Apps install will always have a different UUID. If two installations of Apps are running with the same UUID, Hub won't be able to tell them apart (the ID you assign each Apps install is meant for people, not computers.).
Steps to resolve:
- Close Exhibitera Apps on the device you need to fix.
- Locate your Apps file directory and navigate to the configuration directory.
- Delete the config.json file.
- Launch Apps again and you will be prompted to complete first-time setup again. This will generate a new UUID.
- Once you have completed first-time setup, Apps will launch and everything should work. Any content or definitions you copied from the other PC will still be there.
To reset the admin password, you must have access to the PC on which Hub is installed.
Note: You should not use the admin account for regular operation, even as the system administrator. Instead, create a user account and assign it full permissions.
Steps to resolve:
- Close Exhibitera Hub.
-
In the diretory where Hub is installed, locate the
configurationdirectory. -
Delete the file,
root_admin.txt - Launch Hub and you will be prompted to create a new admin password. The old password will no longer work.
Windows
On Windows, Exhibitera Apps requires the built-in Microsoft Edge WebView2 runtime to display its content. The version of WebView2 installed on your PC must be newer or equal to the version used in Exhibitera Apps. Windows will keep WebView2 up to date through Windows Update, so this error sometimes occurs when installing Exihbitera on a brand-new system that isn't fully updated.
Steps to resolve:
- In Windows, open Settings > Windows Update and make sure your PC is fully up to date. Usually, this will resolve the problem.
-
If the problem persits, follow these steps:
- In Windows, open Settings > Apps > Apps & features
- Search for "webview" and uninstall the "Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime"
- Download the WebView2 Evergreen Standalone Installer for your platform from Microsoft and install it.
- Exhibitera Apps should now run.
Sometimes, a Windows update can reset the driver used by your DMX device.
Steps to resolve:
- Check that the DMX adapter is still connected to the PC, then restart the PC and Exhibitera Apps.
- If the problem persists, close Exhibitera Apps on the affected PC again.
- Download and run Zadig, a tool used to edit your device drivers.
- Click Options > List All Devices
-
From the list, select
FT232R USB UARTor whichever device appears most similar to that. -
From the box to the right of the green arrow, select the
libusbKdriver. - Click the Reinstall Driver button.
- Once the installation is complete, restart your PC and Exhibitera Apps.
Linux
On Linux, the Apps interface must be accessed through a web browser.
Steps to resolve:
-
Note the port you chose during setup. If you chose the default port, it is
8000. -
Open a web browser on the PC running Apps and go to this address:
http://localhost:[port], replacing[port]with the port number you chose. - The Apps interface will appear. You will use this same address to access Apps on this device.
